Farm Fresh Produce on the road.
Sarge and I love to have fresh homegrown produce while we are out on the road. It is difficult to pull into most produce stands when you are hauling a 53’ trailer behind you. Not only do you have the extra length most parking lots won’t accommodate, but you have the extra height coming in over 13’ tall.
It is refreshing to find a roadside business with parking either on the roadside or actually room in the lot to turn around.
Our favorite stop in South Carolina for homegrown produce….. McLeod Farms! They are located on 151 by-pass near McBee. There is plenty of truck parking!!!
They celebrated their 100 yr. anniversary in 2016. You can find everything you need here. Fresh whole milk, fresh butter, fresh meat, fruits, vegetables, souvenirs, ice cream, canned “like home” fruits and vegetables, seasonings, and much more!
Let me share a little about McLeod Farms. The McLeod family has operated one of the largest peach orchards in the area, with 650 acres in production since 1916 covering 4 generations. What started as just a peach orchard, has grown into a family fun experience.
Experience McLeod Farms
They have the state’s largest Corn Maze! Each year there is a theme for the corn maze. 2018’s theme was: Fire and Rescue. With 2 mazes totaling over 20 acres in size – the largest in the state of SC. Patrons were amazed with the interactive attractions that were not only for the kids but the adults as well. They were able to answer fire and rescue trivia related questions to avoid getting lost in the maze. Check out the aerial photo of the maze!
You want to be sure to visit their museum. Take a trip back in time as you stroll down memory lane at the Mac’s Pride Antique Farm Museum!
They have it all – from fabulous antique autos to butter churns and phonograph players.
For the ladies: One section of the museum is dedicated to the ladies of the farm and includes antique sewing machines, a wood cook stove, a wringer washing machine, and other replicas.
For the men: The museum’s collection includes automobiles from each decade since the horse and buggy, and antique farming equipment, such as old tractors and plows.
Their roadside market has the best fresh produce. Check out their selection of hand-picked, fresh, delicious fruits and vegetables. Who loves chocolate dipped strawberries? THIS GIRL DOES!
Did I mention… They have a bakery? Fresh baked breads, cakes and pies. They also offer custom arranged Gift Baskets filled with jarred products and bakery goods! Best yet…. YOU CAN ORDER ONLINE AND HAVE IT SHIPPED TO YOU!
But if you are lucky enough to visit in person, do not leave without topping off your visit with a steamy cup of cider or coffee and your choice of fresh bakery treat or a cone or cup of hand-dipped ice cream with over 20 delicious flavors to choose from.
